Dear Friends.... For those of you just visiting our site for the first time, I’ll tell you a little bit about the concept for my new CD, INCURABLY ROMANTIC. In 1995, I was privileged to be invited by Larry King to be a part of a series of shows he created on CNN honoring several of the great composers of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. The concept for each show was very simple....two or three singers would gather around a grand piano and sing several songs by the composer being honored on that particular show. Our only accompaniment was the piano...in my case, our pianist was Michael Feinstein, who was brilliant! Larry King knew the words to every song..even the verses! He is truly a lover of great songs. What struck me about the shows was the beauty and elegance of the songs sung only with piano...no other instruments. It made each song stand out, like a jewel in a beautiful setting. That is where I first got the idea to do a CD with just piano accompaniment. I had long wanted to record a selection of classic songs representing “romantic love”. I went through hundreds of songs before I chose the fifteen songs on INCURABLY ROMANTIC. Once I had the songs chosen, I asked Kathy Rubbicco..simply one of the finest accompanists I have ever worked with...to work with me on the project. When she said “yes”, the project was on! We recorded it in two six-hour sessions at our recording studio, Rumbo Recorders, just before Christmas of 2000. Daryl produced the sessions, and Kathy and I had a wonderful time creating the music. As an accompanist, Kathy is in a class by herself, and almost “breathes” with me. What a joy. I am thrilled to tell you that INCURABLY ROMANTIC is available in record stores around the country, on the 'Varese-Sarabande' record label! I’m so pleased with the artwork and packaging, and of, course, the CD itself. Harry Langdon, the legendary Hollywood photographer, did the cover photograph. He has been photographing me and Daryl for twenty-five years! Daryl came up with the initial design for the CD cover, and worked with a fine graphic artist, Beth Pease, of Sony Disc Manufacturing, and Bill Pitzonka, Art Director at Varèse Sarabande Records, to complete the packaging. You can click on the shows listed and hear an internet radio show, hosted by me, and featuring some of the songs on the CDs. Each show will be about ten minutes long. Let me know if you enjoy them. If you do, we’ll do a new one every now and then. By the way, INCURABLY ROMANTIC is the first in a set of two CDs. This fall I plan on working on a selection of songs representing “love gone wrong”.
